History: Go here and then ctrl+f to 'Arriving to Port Royal'. All history from there, towards 'Down with his ship', is applicable.
The stuff after will be used as details to inform his background (his father, his history with Angelica, the Brethren Court, and so on). However, the companion books and stuff are things I haven't read and have no inclination to, but I may take reference from their summaries for flavour. Just being honest.
Personality:Daft, mad, barking. All of these are legitimate descriptors when it comes to Captain Jack Sparrow, or so it would seem. A first encounter is generally unsettling, speaking and moving with a near constant slur and sway that is so ingrained into his manner that it can't possibly be affected. It may have to do with sun stroke, excessive drinking, the fact that he has sea legs instead of land legs, and generally just-- born this way. He is not initially unfriendly -- in fact, he is pretty amiable, and seems to retain a neutral kind of interest for everyone he might encounter. These encounters are generally rather brief and erratic, and despite his apparent charisma and propensity towards harder words than the average good for nothing pirate, most are glad about that. The briefness.
The key thing is that while he is sort of friendly, he is hardly ever nice. The closest he gets is when he's trying to sleep with someone, and even then, that's generally contained to elaborate and occasionally transparent flattery. The same is true for those he tries to make allies with. Otherwise, he will generally give people a verbal dressing down, if in an off-hand and not necessarily malicious way, in the form of backhanded compliments and honest observation. Making friends is absolutely not one of Jack's goals in life -- in fact, getting your heart set on anything that is not yourself or your ship is a completely terrible idea, because then you might do something stupid.
At the heart of Jack's motivations lies the nigh on insatiable quest for immortality and legend. He has and would go on the most ridiculous adventures to obtain it, and it's tough to say where this comes from. It could be theorised that his disgust at his pirate rabbling family and the simultaneous resentment and admiration of his pirate captain father are responsible for pushing him down such a path, as he left home young with the determination to become not just an ordinary pirate, but the greatest captain the world has known.
As for a moral compass, you might be surprised to know that Jack has one, and it doesn't simply point north or towards the Black Pearl. That bit about not wanting to make human connections is tangled up in the fact that when he does, he might well care about them or feel obliged to save their lives or even give up the things he values in favour of them. This makes things unnecessarily complicated and Jack doesn't like doing it, but it happens, even if sometimes he tries not to have it happen. He has a belief that pirates can and should be good people, for all that he has absolutely zero regard for the dignity and possessions of not a soul alive. Cold-blooded murder, slavery and excess cruelty makes him uncomfortable, which is a partial reason as to why his crew mutinied against him the last time he was captain of The Black Pearl -- he is, in some ways, the worst pirate you've ever met.
He is unmistakably self-serving, despite this, often putting people into dangerous situations to further his own gain, and chase what he wants to the edge of the world just to have it, whether it be immortality or simple freedom.
Powers/Abilities: No powers to speak of -- he is an ordinary man in at least one respect of the word. He is familiar, though, with magic and curses and enchanted items, although the only one of these he has is a compass that shows him the direction of what he wants the most. In Teleios, it will be out of whack.
Appearance: As played by Johnny Depp.
